Hebrews 5:11-6:3

11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

(Chapter 6 starts here)

1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

2 of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.

3 And this we will do, if God permits.

Note: We (authors) underlined "elementary teaching about the Christ" (verse 1) simply to draw attention to that translational phrase. The writer of Hebrews presents some examples of the elementary teachings in verses 1 and 2. Just because the writer of Hebrews says some teachings are elementary does not mean they are unimportant. It simply means that there are other Scriptural teachings which are also relevant in terms of how we live and interact with God during real-life struggles. To read more about what the writer of Hebrews says about handling trials, you can pick up the writer's discussion in Hebrews 10:15 and read through the end of Hebrews chapter 12. (The length of that passage is too much to present here; we invite you to check out that passage at some point by reading your Bible.) In that passage, the writer discusses and gives examples of the spiritual skills of perserverance, faith and "being disciplined." Pointing to, discussing, and teaching these skill sets are the purposes of this website and Keys To Understanding Life Series spiritual warfare materials.
